Termite (WDO) Inspection
Inspection of Termite (Wood-Destroying Organisms).
Verify for wood-destroying organisms.
More than just termites
WDO is an acronym for Wood Destroying Organism. It’s used to identify pests and fungus which actually consume wood. They use your home as food. WDOs can often go unnoticed for many years, and it can be hard to find them. The following organisms are included in WDO inspection reports:
Termites include subterranean, dry wood, and other varieties
Powderpost Beetles are wood-boring beetles.
Wood decaying fungi (i.e. Wood rot)
They are a bigger problem than you think
WDO inspections are required to obtain VA and FHA mortgages, as well as loans from financial institutions. The average termite damage in the United States is estimated at $5 billion annually by the industry. Repair costs for termite infestations are on average $3,000 but may be higher depending on how severe the damage is and where they were found.
WDO Inspection Report
Because wood-destroying organisms are difficult to identify and detect, a properly trained inspector is necessary. WDO inspections are visual inspections of all accessible parts of the home, including crawlspace, attic, and exterior. Inspections look for evidence of past or active infestation, such as wood damage, termites, beetles dead or alive, and mud tubes. Inspections also look for signs of infestation, such as soil contact with windows or wood, standing water, and other conditions.
