Radon Testing

Tim performed a home inspection on our recent purchase of a 36 yr old home. He was quick to schedule and had a very detailed report for us to review. He was also very helpful in answering all of our questions. I am also a Realtor and would use him again.

Radon Gas Testing

Radon testing can be a cost-effective and simple way to protect your family against a silent killer.

Radon: What is so bad about it?

Second only to smoking, Radon gas is the leading cause of lung cancer. Radon gas is invisible and odorless. It can also be tasteless. Radon cannot be detected without special equipment. Radon is responsible for approximately 18,000 deaths from lung cancer in the United States each year. It’s estimated that 1 out of 15 homes has radon levels higher than the thresholds set by the EPA.

Radon is a chemical element, Rn, and a member of the noble gases. Radon is radioactive and can damage the DNA of living cells. Radon is naturally formed from the radioactive decay of uranium and thorium.

Although radon can be found all over the globe, it can cause problems in areas where high levels of uranium are present in the ground. This includes New England and the northern regions of the United States.

What can you do about Radon?

To protect your family and yourself, you must first check for radon levels in your home. Our radon testing equipment can accurately measure the levels of radon in your home. It is recommended to install a mitigation system for radon if the measurement exceeds 4 picocuries per Liter. Most radon mitigation systems employ a fan to draw in radon below the house and then vent it outside where it can be quickly diluted to safe levels.
