Tim performed the home inspection on the property that I was selling so thoroughly that I hired him to do the inspection at the home I was purchasing. His promptness and responsiveness to all my questions have proven to be immeasurably valuable and a sense of comfort to know that all areas of concern have been called out. I’ll definitely be recommending him to friends and family and will certainly use him in the future!
Check for mold growth to protect your family against a variety of health issues.
Here’s a little bit about mold
Mold spores can be found almost everywhere making it difficult to avoid. Although mold is generally harmless to humans it can cause serious health problems if it grows indoors. Indoor mold can grow anywhere there is moisture. Poorly ventilated crawl spaces, poorly installed insulation, plumbing leaks, and flooded areas are all possible causes of indoor mold growth. Mold growth can begin as quickly as 24 hours.
Indoor Mold: The Dangers
Mold can be both disgusting and potentially dangerous. People with mold sensitivities (allergies) can have symptoms similar to Hay Fever all year. Infants, the elderly, asthmatics, people with suppressed immune systems or lung disease, can experience more severe problems. Even healthy children may be susceptible to mold-related respiratory diseases. This area of research is still being explored. Therefore, all mold should always be considered hazardous to the safety and well-being of your family.
Famous Black Mold (Stachybotrys chartarum).
Black mold acquired a very ominous reputation after being connected to a cluster of acute pulmonary hemorrhage/hemosiderosis (bleeding of the lungs) cases among infants in Cleveland, Ohio in 1994. While black mold is more common than other types of molds, it is still quite common. Although research is still ongoing into the link between black mold and major problems in health, it should be treated in the same way as other serious threats to health like lead, asbestos, and radon.
Inspecting Mold in Certain Areas
We will look for signs of indoor mold growth and make recommendations to get rid of it. The crawlspace, basement, and areas around plumbing fixtures are the most common problem areas. However, mold can grow anywhere there is moisture. The first step in any mold inspection is to identify the source of moisture. Without identifying the source of moisture, mold cannot be removed.
